Nairobi Man Arrested for Posing as Police Officer, Extorting Public
Police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer and extorting unsuspecting members of the public along Jogoo Road, Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was arrested by officers from Jogoo Road Police Station at DC Stage following a public tip-off about a man allegedly masquerading as a law enforcement officer to extort members of the public.
According to police, Mwadime introduced himself as Sergeant Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, claiming to be attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) Training School in Embakasi.
However, his alleged police credentials were questioned, leading to a search that exposed what officers described as an elaborate attempt to impersonate a genuine police officer.
Police recovered a forged appointment certificate bearing a fake service number, a pair of handcuffs and two keys, which the suspect allegedly used to make his false identity appear legitimate.
He was taken into custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
