Don Julio and the Nairobi Polo Club have hosted members of Nigeria’s Lagos Polo Club in Nairobi ahead of the two clubs’ showdown at the Simon Kuseyo Cup on Sunday, November 8, 2026.
The visiting team was welcomed at an exclusive gathering held at Thai Chi Restaurant in Nairobi on Friday, November 6, as the two clubs marked their shared passion for polo ahead of the tournament.
The event formed part of the fifth edition of the Lagos Incoming Tour, which brings together players from the two clubs for a sporting and social exchange.
Wanjiru Murage, Marketing Manager for International Premium Spirits and Reserves (IPSR) at East African Breweries Limited (EABL), said the partnership with the Nairobi Polo Club reflects the brand’s commitment to supporting the sport and building connections among its enthusiasts.
“It is an honour to welcome the Lagos Polo Club back to Nairobi for its fifth edition of the Lagos Incoming Tour,” Murage said.
“As EABL, our support for the sport of polo goes beyond sponsorship. We believe in fostering community and camaraderie that makes the sport compelling not only for the players but also for the spectators. Hosting the team from Lagos is a privilege, and we are proud to help set the stage for a memorable tournament,” she added.
The tour features eight players, both men and women, from Lagos, Nigeria, with a competitive encounter expected when the two clubs meet during the Simon Kuseyo Cup.
The tournament holds significance for both teams, with the Kenyan side seeking to reclaim the trophy.
Beyond the sporting preparations, guests at the welcome event enjoyed a curated Don Julio tequila tasting experience led by Diageo Luxury Spirits Brand Ambassador Paul Gachohi.
The experience featured two signature cocktails inspired by the cultures and landscapes of Nairobi and Lagos.
The first, Golden Chukka, combines aged tequila with cinnamon, citrus and a touch of turmeric, drawing inspiration from the warm hues of an African sunset.
The second, Savannah Meets the Atlantic, features Don Julio Blanco, fresh agave, lime and tamarind, bringing together flavours inspired by Nairobi’s open landscapes and Lagos’ Atlantic coastline.
The cocktail experience drew parallels between the discipline and skill required in polo and the creativity and craftsmanship involved in mixology.
Among the guests were EABL Commercial Director Yvonne Mwangi, Nairobi Polo Club Chairman Simon Muchene and Lagos Polo Club Chairman Adeyemo Alakija, alongside other invited guests.
The two clubs are expected to renew their rivalry on the field on Sunday as the Simon Kuseyo Cup takes centre stage.
