31-Year-Old Arrested for Impersonating KCSE Candidate at Nakuru School
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man accused of impersonating a Form Four candidate and sitting the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations on behalf of another student at Rohi Boys High School in Nakuru County.
The suspect, identified as Nicholas, was arrested on Wednesday, November 4, following intelligence that an adult was sitting the national examinations on behalf of a registered candidate.
According to police, the suspect had already completed five examination papers before his arrest. He is being held at Lanet Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.
Authorities revealed that the suspect holds a diploma in procurement, raising questions about how he managed to register and sit the examination despite his academic qualifications.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the case, with detectives pursuing the student who allegedly hired the suspect to sit the examinations on their behalf.
“We have arrested one case of impersonation, someone to do an exam for another person, which is wrong. The DCI has gone with the impersonator,” Nakuru education officer Victoria Mulili said.
The arrest has also exposed wider examination irregularities at the private school, where education officials established that 37 of the 58 candidates registered for the KCSE examinations were adults aged between 20 and 48.
Officials said the adult candidates should have been registered at special examination centres rather than the regular school examination centre.
The discovery has prompted further investigations into the school’s examination registration procedures and the possible involvement of other individuals in the alleged irregularities.
Detectives are expected to establish how the suspect gained access to the examination centre, how the impersonation was facilitated and whether other candidates or school officials were involved in the scheme.
