More Than 30 Feared Drowned as Boat Capsizes in Central Nigeria
More than 30 people are feared to have drowned when wooden boat capsized in central Nigeria on Saturday.
At least 100 people, including a group of mourners returning from a funeral, and motorcycle riders carrying passengers were aboard the vessel when it overturned at the Buruku crossing on the Katsina-Ala River in Benue State.
Two bodies were retrieved on Sunday, while more than 30 people are still missing in the river.
Emergency services officials say overloading may have contributed to the accident involving the reportedly newly-built boat.
Officials have urged boat operators to limit passenger numbers and ensure people wear life jackets.
