Fake Traffic Officer Arrested Over Bank Withdrawal Robberies
Detectives have arrested a suspected member of a criminal gang accused of targeting people shortly after they withdraw cash from banks by posing as traffic police officer.
The suspect, identified as Muia Mutune, alias Fredrick Mbuta, was arrested in Embakasi Village following an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives from the Operation Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).
According to investigators, the gang allegedly uses police uniforms to impersonate traffic officers and ambush unsuspecting victims moments after they leave banks with cash.
Detectives used intelligence gathering and forensic analysis to identify four key suspects believed to be linked to the robbery incidents.
Mutune had previously been arrested in April 2026 over similar cases but was released on bond in July, according to investigators.
Detectives continued pursuing leads until they traced him to Embakasi Village, where he was apprehended.
He remains in custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment as detectives intensify the search for his alleged accomplices, who are still at large.
