Crystal Asige Declares Nairobi Senate Bid, Pledges to Protect Residents
Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has declared her intention to contest the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, promising to build on her legislative work and address challenges facing residents.
Asige made the announcement during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM) Church in Donholm, Embakasi East, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, where she joined other Linda Mwananchi Movement leaders during their Nairobi tour ahead of the polls.
The senator said she had developed a clear vision for Nairobi and was committed to improving residents’ lives, insisting that her dedication to public service predated her latest political ambitions.
“I have seen Nairobi and all our problems, and I have committed myself to serving you. I did not start today,” Asige said.
She challenged critics to examine her work in Parliament, claiming she had introduced seven bills aimed at protecting Kenyans and improving their welfare.
“If this round is about track record, I also have a track record. I have introduced seven bills to help Kenyans and protect Kenyans,” she said.
Asige Highlights Disability Rights Legislation
Asige cited the Persons with Disabilities Act as one of her key legislative initiatives, saying it seeks to protect people living with disabilities and their caregivers.
She urged eligible residents to explore available tax relief, noting that people with disabilities can apply for income tax exemption, subject to registration, documentation and approval requirements.
Parents and guardians caring for people with severe disabilities may also qualify for tax relief under specified conditions.
“Are you aware of that? It is in my law,” Asige said, urging residents to consult their local Members of County Assembly (MCAs) for guidance on accessing the benefits.
She added that other legislative proposals targeting young people, businesses and special-needs schools were in the pipeline.
“I also have other bills to protect young people, businesses and special-needs schools in Kenya that are coming,” she said.
Asige, who currently serves as a nominated senator, said she wanted an elected seat to expand her work on behalf of Nairobi residents.
“I am asking for an opportunity to continue this work, to serve and protect Kenyans,” she said.
Nairobi Senate Race Gathers Momentum
Asige’s declaration adds her name to the growing list of aspirants seeking to succeed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the 2027 General Election.
East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga announced her bid on Thursday, October 15, 2026, while Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has also expressed interest in the race.
With several contenders signalling their ambitions, the battle for Nairobi’s Senate seat is beginning to take shape, setting the stage for a contest centred on leadership, policy priorities and the candidates’ plans for the capital’s residents.
