Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia was arrested on Monday morning after spending the night at the Royal Media Services (RMS) premises, where he had sought refuge following reports that police officers were waiting to apprehend him.
The lawmaker had raised alarm over an overnight security operation targeting him at the Royal Media Services (RMS) headquarters, claiming that hooded and masked, heavily armed men surrounded the media station while no uniformed police officers were visible at the scene.
In a video seen by Newswire.co.ke on Monday, August 3, 2026, the legislator was taken into custody at the RMS offices, hours after he raised alarm over heavily armed and hooded officers who had surrounded the media station in an attempt to arrest him.
Opposition leaders and lawyers had remained at the premises overnight, accusing security agencies of attempting to intimidate the MP.
Kaguchia is being investigated over inciteful remarks he made during a political gathering in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
