A 26-year-old woman was arrested after police officers at Buruburu Police Station allegedly discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread she had brought for her boyfriend, who was in custody.
Bernice Achieng had visited the station to see her boyfriend and asked officers to deliver the loaf to him.
However, officers became suspicious after noticing that the package had been unsealed. A search of the bread allegedly led to the recovery of five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden inside.
A further search of Achieng’s belongings reportedly uncovered seven additional rolls of bhang concealed in the pocket of her jacket, bringing the total number of rolls recovered to 12.
Achieng remains in police custody, with the exhibits secured as investigations continue. She is expected to be arraigned in court.
Thika Police Arrest Suspected Bhang Peddler
Meanwhile, police in Thika arrested a suspected drug peddler following a high-speed motorcycle chase through Kairi, Thika West.
The suspect, identified as John Mwangi alias “Bombay”, was allegedly riding with a female passenger when they encountered a police roadblock.
Police said the rider attempted to evade the officers by speeding away but lost control of the motorcycle near Ree Supermarket after hitting a speed bump, causing the motorcycle to crash.
The female passenger reportedly escaped into the crowd during the commotion, while Mwangi was arrested at the scene.
A search of the motorcycle allegedly led to the recovery of 300 rolls of bhang and an additional three kilograms of the substance wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the motorcycle seat.
Mwangi is being held at Kimuchu Police Station as police process the case ahead of his arraignment.
