Two Suspects Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing of Kariokor Shoe Trader
Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader at Kariokor Market in Nairobi, recovering a bloodstained Maasai sword believed to have been used in the killing.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu, alias Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, alias Denoo, were arrested in Kayole following an intelligence-led operation involving detectives from DCI Central, Kamukunji and the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office.
The arrests mark a major development in the investigation into the killing of Paul Mwangangi, who was reportedly stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge, on October 12, 2026.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers who responded to the scene found Mwangangi lying face down with a fresh stab wound to the chest.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives processed and documented the scene to collect crucial evidence, while the body was transferred to City Mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy.
Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives traced the two suspects to a hideout in Kayole, where they were arrested and escorted to Kamukunji Police Station.
The duo remains in custody as investigators pursue further inquiries ahead of their expected arraignment in court.
During the operation, detectives recovered a bloodstained Maasai sword suspected to have been used in the attack.
The weapon has been secured as an exhibit for forensic examination to establish its possible link to the killing.
The DCI has conveyed its condolences to Mwangangi’s family, friends and colleagues, pledging to pursue all leads and establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Investigations into the fatal stabbing are ongoing, with detectives working to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
