Third Suspect Arrested in Sh1 Million Daylight Robbery Along Shamakhokho–Serem Road
Detectives have arrested a third suspect in connection with the gunpoint robbery of a woman who lost Sh1 million along the Shamakhokho–Serem road in Nandi County.
The suspect, Sammy Angwegwe, 36, was apprehended in the Esirulo area of Emuhaya Sub-County following an intelligence-led operation involving detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Western Region, Embali Police Station and DCI Hamisi.
Angwegwe joins two other suspects already in custody as investigations into the October 19, 2026, robbery continue.
The incident occurred shortly after the victim and her friend withdrew Sh1 million from a bank in Mbale, Vihiga County.
The money, intended for the purchase of building materials, was packed in a shopping bag before the two women began their journey home.
The pair boarded a matatu and alighted at Shamakhokho stage, where they hired a motorcycle to take them to Chemobo Village in Nandi County.
However, as they approached Erusui Girls School, a white Toyota Probox suddenly blocked their path.
Four men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, two of them armed with pistols, and confronted the victims before snatching the bag containing the money and another bag carrying personal valuables.
The assailants then fled towards Serem Town, leaving the victims stranded.
Detectives from DCI Hamisi launched investigations immediately after the incident, leading to the arrest of the first two suspects.
The three suspects remain in custody as detectives pursue further leads to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the robbery.
Investigators are also working to establish the full extent of the criminal network behind the attack as they prepare the suspects for arraignment.
