TEP Begins Formal Name Change to Linda Mwananchi Movement
The Equitable Party (TEP) has taken a major step towards rebranding as the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) initiated the formal name-change process.
In a letter dated October 13, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties J. C. Lorionokou confirmed receipt of documents submitted by TEP Secretary General Emmanuel Soreh in support of the proposed rebranding.
The documents included a resolution passed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on October 8, 2026, approving the change from The Equitable Party to Linda Mwananchi Movement.
The party had earlier advertised the proposed name change in the Daily Nation newspaper on October 10 and published the notice on its official website.
Following its review, the ORPP confirmed that it had initiated the gazettement process under Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act, which governs changes to a party’s name, symbol, colours and slogan.
However, the rebranding is not yet complete, as the party must fulfil the remaining legal requirements before the proposed name change can be finalised.
The Registrar directed the party to allow 14 days from the date of newspaper publication for members of the public to raise any objections or representations regarding the proposed change.
TEP is also required to inform the ORPP whether any objections have been received and explain how they have been addressed.
The development marks a significant step in the party’s proposed political rebranding, with the final outcome dependent on compliance with the prescribed legal process.
