SGR construction advances in Kisumu as terminus site is secured
Construction of the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is progressing in Kisumu, with the railway terminus site secured to allow contractors to accelerate works.
Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga said the successful facilitation of site access had cleared the way for construction activities at the Kisumu Terminus.
The contractor is undertaking earthworks and preparing the subgrade ahead of setting out the proposed terminus.
Work is also progressing along approximately three kilometres of the railway approaches on the Nairobi side of Kisumu, extending towards Malaba.

Kenya Railways is coordinating with utility service providers to relocate existing infrastructure, including water supply and sewerage networks, to facilitate construction.
The National Land Commission (NLC) is also facilitating land access and acquisition, which remain critical to the implementation of the project.
Kenya Railways said it would continue working with the NLC and other stakeholders to advance construction of the railway, which is expected to strengthen rail connectivity and support economic activity in Western Kenya and beyond.
