Safaricom Sets November 13 Deadline for Kenyans to Surrender Old Phones, Chargers
Safaricom has urged Kenyans to surrender old mobile phones, chargers, earphones and other unused electronic accessories at its retail shops across the country ahead of a November 13, 2026 deadline.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, November 6, the telecommunications company encouraged households to identify electronic gadgets they no longer use and hand them over for responsible disposal and recycling.
“Got old phones, chargers or earphones you no longer use? Give your small electronic waste a second life by dropping it off at any Safaricom retail shops across the country,” the company stated.
Safaricom said the collection exercise aims to reduce electronic waste, recover valuable materials from discarded gadgets and minimise environmental pollution.
“Through responsible e-waste collection, we can recover valuable materials, reduce environmental pollution and keep electronic waste out of landfills,” the company added.
The exercise will run until November 13, 2026, giving members of the public a limited window to surrender their unused electronic accessories at Safaricom retail outlets nationwide.
However, the company clarified that participants will not receive any monetary compensation for the gadgets they hand over.
“No, there is no monetary compensation,” Safaricom stated, emphasising that the initiative is focused on responsible waste collection and recycling rather than purchasing old electronics.
Electronic waste, commonly known as e-waste, includes discarded mobile phones, computers, chargers, batteries, earphones and other electrical equipment.
Improper disposal of such materials can expose the environment to hazardous substances, potentially contaminating soil and water.
Through the initiative, Safaricom seeks to promote proper electronic waste management by ensuring discarded gadgets are directed towards appropriate recycling and disposal channels instead of ending up in landfills.
Kenyans wishing to participate are encouraged to visit any Safaricom retail shop and drop off their old phones, chargers, earphones and other small electronic accessories before the November 13 deadline.
