Things have taken a dramatic turn in Trans Nzoia after Governor George Natembeya sent President William Ruto a blunt message, telling him he cannot just drop into the county like a stone and expect the governor to be waiting for him.
Natembeya reminded Ruto that when he came to Trans Nzoia as a UDA presidential candidate, he was there for politics, but when he comes as the President of the Republic of Kenya, the governor will be ready to receive him.
Ruto, however, fired back with the words, “Hii ujinga tutaondoa,” a statement that has intensified questions about the growing political tension between the two leaders.
Natembeya stood his ground, reminding the President that he is not a Regional Commissioner answerable to the Executive, but an elected governor with a mandate to run his county.
He insisted that presidential visits should be communicated to his office, setting the stage for a public confrontation over respect, protocol and the limits of political authority.
What began as an exchange of words has now put the relationship between State House and the Trans Nzoia governor under the spotlight.
