Police Recover Illicit Alcohol After Suspects Abandon Vehicle in Trans Nzoia
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered dozens of cartons of suspected illicit alcohol believed to have been smuggled into Kenya from Uganda.
The recovery followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from DCI Kiminini and DCI Chwele, who intercepted a Toyota Wish, registration number KBV 525J, suspected of transporting the illegal consignment.
Police pursued the vehicle from Kiminini to the Mali Saba (Emuro) area, where the driver and a passenger abandoned it while the engine was still running and fled on foot.
The vehicle subsequently veered off the road and crashed into a roadside structure, bringing the chase to an end.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 24 cartons of Jonney’s alcohol, each containing 24 bottles of 200ml, as well as 10 cartons of White Gin, also packed in 24 bottles of 200ml each.
The vehicle was towed to Kiminini Police Station, where the recovered alcohol was secured as exhibits pending further processing.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver and passenger, as well as efforts to establish and apprehend the vehicle’s owner, as investigations into the suspected smuggling operation continue.
