Kenyan authorities are set to destroy a massive methamphetamine haul worth an estimated KSh 8.2 billion ($63 million) in Mombasa, in what officials say is one of the country’s biggest anti-drug operations.
The shipment, weighing more than 1,036 kilograms, was seized in the Indian Ocean after the Kenyan Navy intercepted a vessel suspected of transporting narcotics in October 2025.
Six suspects have been charged in connection with the shipment and have been ordered to present their defense in court.
Officials say destroying the narcotics is the safest option while the case continues and hope the move will send a strong message to criminal networks operating along East Africa’s maritime routes.
