Former Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu Defects from UDA to NEDP, Eyes Mara MP Seat

Former Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu has officially defected from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to the National Economic Development Party (NEDP).

‎‎Kananu who served as Nairobi Governor after succeeding former Governor Mike Sonko has shifted camp in a bid to revive her political career.‎‎

While welcoming her to the party,Sonko stated that her entry to was aimed at strengthening the party’s push to expand its political footprint ahead of the next General Election.

‎‎Kananu is now setting the stage for a fresh political chapter as she seeks to vie for the Mara Constituency parliamentary seat in Tharaka Nithi County.‎‎

According to the party, Kananu will contest the Mara parliamentary seat on the NEDP ticket, with the party pledging to champion an agenda focused on poverty eradication, improved infrastructure, job creation, quality education, access to clean water, and restoring hope to residents of the constituency.

‎‎”Today, we proudly welcome H.E. Anne Kananu to NEDP following her official defection from UDA. Together, we are committed to fighting poverty, improving infrastructure, creating jobs, expanding access to quality education and clean water, and restoring hope to the people of Mara,” the party leader said in a statement.‎‎

Present during the meeting was the Deputy Party leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, at a time when most broad-based coalition members are ditching the government for the opposition as the 2027 clock ticks. ‎‎‎
