Police officers from Athi River Police Station, with support from members of the public, have rescued a doctor who had been abducted by armed suspects demanding a Sh3 million ransom for his release.
The victim, identified as Emmanuel Kerich, was allegedly seized while spending time with friends at Juja City Mall. According to preliminary investigations, three men handcuffed him before forcing him into a Subaru Forester bearing registration number KBK 895W.
Investigators established that the vehicle had been fitted with side mirrors displaying a different registration number, KDQ 640F, which police believe was intended to disguise the vehicle’s identity during the abduction.
The suspects reportedly drove the victim through several locations, where he was assaulted and tortured as they pressured him to secure the Sh3 million ransom. They later headed towards Athi River.
Following intelligence reports and assistance from members of the public, police tracked the suspects and intercepted the vehicle along the Mavemba–Mugoya Road in Athi River.
During the operation, two of the suspects escaped on foot, while one was apprehended by members of the public and assaulted before police officers intervened. The suspect was rescued and taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
The abducted doctor was rescued unharmed. Officers also recovered a pair of handcuffs believed to have been used during the kidnapping, while the Subaru Forester was seized as an exhibit to support ongoing investigations.
Detectives have since launched a manhunt for the two suspects who remain at large as investigations into the incident continue.
