Former NuPEA Accountant Fined KSh130,000 Over Forged KCSE Certificate
A former accountant at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), Lilian Mweche Muyumba, has been fined KSh130,000 after admitting to using forged academic documents to secure employment.
Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Ndombi convicted Muyumba on October 19, 2026, on two counts of uttering a false document and presenting a forged certificate after she pleaded guilty under a plea agreement with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court fined her KSh30,000 for uttering a false document and KSh100,000 for presenting a forged certificate.
Failure to pay the fines will attract prison terms of one year and two years, respectively.
Investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that Muyumba submitted a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, purportedly showing that she sat her examinations at Moi Girls Secondary School, Nangili, in 1996, to obtain employment at NuPEA.
She had initially faced three charges: forgery of a KCSE certificate, uttering a false document and presenting a forged certificate.
She pleaded guilty to the latter two offences.
The EACC welcomed the conviction, saying it serves as a deterrent to individuals who use fraudulent academic credentials to secure employment.
