Wamunyinyi Dumps DAP-K Deputy Leader Role to Back Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement
Former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi has relinquished his position as Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) Deputy Party Leader to join Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamunyinyi said the decision followed days of reflection and consultations with voters, arguing that Sifuna had emerged as a strong voice for ordinary Kenyans struggling with the rising cost of living and economic hardships.
In a statement, the former lawmaker said he was ready to work alongside Sifuna to champion the interests of small-scale traders, boda boda operators, unemployed youth and farmers.
“After long nights of reflection and listening to the ground, I have decided to drop my position as Deputy Party Leader of DAP-K and take my energy to walk side by side with my brother, the voice of the people, Sen. Edwin Sifuna,” Wamunyinyi said.
He described Linda Mwananchi as a movement that reflects the concerns of ordinary citizens who feel sidelined in the country’s political and economic decisions.
“Why Sifuna? Because Sifuna is not speaking the language of boardrooms, he is speaking the language of mama mboga, boda boda, the jobless youth and the forgotten farmer. That is the Linda Mwananchi spirit,” he stated.
Wamunyinyi Urges Eugene Wamalwa to Join Sifuna
Despite abandoning his leadership position in DAP-K, Wamunyinyi maintained that his decision was not motivated by a fallout with party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Instead, he revealed that he had reached out to Wamalwa and urged him to join the emerging political camp, warning that divisions among opposition leaders could weaken their challenge to President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
“I have not left in anger. In fact, I have reached out to my party leader, my brother Eugene Wamalwa, and told him plainly, ‘Kuja tutembee pamoja.’ Come, let us go and support Sifuna,” he said.
Wamunyinyi cautioned opposition leaders against allowing personal ambitions and competing political interests to fragment their support base as the country heads towards the next General Election.
“History will not forgive us if we scatter the opposition vote while Mwananchi is suffering,” he added.
He further rallied behind the political slogan WANTAM, insisting that unity would be critical to achieving the movement’s objectives.
“We cannot go into 2027 divided. The ground is saying one thing—WANTAM! And WANTAM needs unity,” he stated.
Wamunyinyi Assures Kanduyi Supporters
The former MP declared his commitment to Linda Mwananchi, saying he would work with Sifuna as the movement expands its political reach ahead of the 2027 polls.
He also sought to reassure his supporters in Kanduyi Constituency that his political realignment would not diminish his commitment to their interests.
“So I am here, I am Linda Mwananchi, and I am with Sifuna. To my supporters in Kanduyi, this is the winning team. Kanduyi 2027 is safe,” he said.
Wamunyinyi’s announcement adds to the political realignments taking shape within the opposition, particularly in Western Kenya, as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His appeal to Wamalwa to join the movement also signals a push for a more unified opposition front, even as political leaders continue to navigate competing interests and strategies for challenging Ruto’s administration.
