KFCB orders Katombi to pull down ‘Wikend’ Music video over explicit content, See Video Below

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has ordered musician Alex Kasau, popularly known as Katombi, to immediately remove his “Wikend” music video from YouTube and other platforms, citing sexually explicit content, nudity and alleged violations of film classification laws.

In a statement issued on Friday, the regulator said the video also depicts substance abuse, alcohol consumption and tobacco use, making it unsuitable for general exhibition, particularly among children.

The board said the video was distributed to the public without being licensed or classified, contrary to the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222.

KFCB said it had directed Katombi, in collaboration with Google Kenya, to take down the video from his YouTube channel and other distribution platforms accessible to minors.

“The Board is working with relevant law enforcement agencies and digital platforms to enforce this directive,” the agency said.

The regulator flagged the video for allegedly violating Sections 4 and 12 of the Act, which governs the regulation of film and audiovisual content in Kenya.

The directive puts the spotlight on the regulation of online entertainment content as music videos increasingly reach audiences through digital platforms, where age restrictions and parental controls may not always prevent children from accessing material deemed inappropriate.

KFCB said it had identified the alleged violations through routine compliance monitoring, although it did not disclose when the video was uploaded, the specific scenes it objected to or whether any enforcement action had been taken against the musician beyond the takedown order.

The board condemned the production and distribution of what it described as unlawful audiovisual content, arguing that artistic freedom must be exercised within the law.

It also urged parents and guardians to monitor the content consumed by children, activate parental controls on digital platforms and report material they consider harmful or inappropriate.

KFCB said complaints could be submitted through info@kfcb.go.ke.

The agency said it remained committed to regulating the audiovisual industry while protecting children and other vulnerable groups from inappropriate content.
