20kg Cannabis Busted in PSV Along Busia–Kisumu Road, Driver Arrested
Police in Busia County have intercepted a public service vehicle carrying 20 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, arresting the driver in a suspected drug-trafficking operation.
The crackdown followed a tip-off that prompted officers from Bumala Police Station to intercept the PSV, registration number KCP 022H, along the Busia–Kisumu Road.
A search of the vehicle’s boot uncovered a green sack and a black bag containing the suspected narcotics.
Further investigations by detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB), Busia, established that the consignment was not ordinary passenger luggage, raising suspicion that the vehicle was being used to transport the drugs.
Police subsequently arrested the driver, Stephen Otieno Jumbo alias Barry, 39, after investigations linked him to the trafficking operation.
Detectives also established that Jumbo was allegedly working with the vehicle’s conductor, Patrick Omondi, who escaped during the police operation.
Officers have since launched a manhunt for Omondi as investigations into the source and intended destination of the narcotics continue.
Jumbo remains in police custody pending processing and arraignment, while the 20kg consignment has been secured as an exhibit.
