Former Chesikaki Councillor Nathan Wasama Shot Dead at Bungoma Home
Former Chesikaki councillor and aspiring Mt Elgon Member of Parliament Nathan Wasama Masai has been shot dead after armed assailants reportedly attacked his home in Tuikut, Cheptais, Bungoma County.
The fatal shooting occurred on Thursday night when the attackers allegedly stormed the residence and opened fire, shooting Wasama multiple times before fleeing. He was rushed for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.
Wasama had recently announced his bid for the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
His killing comes nearly two years after he survived an earlier assassination attempt. In 2024, unknown gunmen ambushed his vehicle in the Kapcheshari area, firing several rounds that struck the rear of the car. He escaped the attack without injury.
The murder has sparked widespread grief and condemnation from political leaders and residents, who are demanding swift investigations and the immediate arrest of those responsible.
The incident has also reignited concerns over security in the Mt Elgon region, with local leaders and residents calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding Wasama’s killing.
