Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a former Deputy Director at the Office of the Auditor-General over allegations of using a forged university degree to obtain employment.
According to the EACC, investigations revealed that Hannah Wambui Mwaura presented a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option), Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree, purportedly issued by Mount Kenya University (MKU), to secure a position as an Assistant Manager – Audit.
The Commission stated that at the time she submitted the academic certificate, Mwaura was still a student at the university and had not yet graduated, making the document fraudulent.
Following the conclusion of the investigations, the EACC forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved charges against Mwaura. She faces counts of forgery, uttering a false document, deceiving a principal, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
Mwaura is expected to appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Friday, August 7, to take plea.
