Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on political leaders to refrain from politicising the proposed Vision 2060 blueprint, emphasizing that the initiative is intended to guide Kenya’s long-term development and future prosperity, not serve as a tool for electoral campaigns.
Addressing residents at Irunduni in Tharaka Nithi County on Sunday, Kindiki said Vision 2060 was intended to provide a long-term development direction for Kenya and should be treated as a national conversation.
“Vision 2060 is not about next year’s elections. It is about the future of Kenya, the future of our children and the future of our grandchildren,” he said.
Kindiki urged leaders to avoid political divisions and keep the focus on the country’s long-term development priorities.
“Don’t bring political divisions. Don’t politicise everything,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President described the Vision 2060 initiative as one of the most consequential undertakings for the country, saying it gives Kenyans an opportunity to shape the nation’s future.
“The invitation by President William Ruto to all Kenyans to deliberate on the long-term future of our country is profound. It is the most consequential undertaking for us in this generation and an opportunity to impact future generations. This is not an engagement to be joked about or treated lightly,” he said.
He challenged those seeking to lead the country to offer alternative ideas rather than simply dismissing the government’s long-term development agenda.
“We expect those who want to lead this country to provide an alternative vision. We are projecting into the future to build on the transformative and inclusive progress we have made over the last four years,” he said.
Kindiki reiterated the government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions, pointing to ongoing infrastructure projects and economic programmes as evidence of its focus on inclusive growth.
He said the government had inherited thousands of stalled infrastructure projects but had since paid contractors and resumed construction, including key road projects in Tharaka Nithi County.
