Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has warned politicians from the Rift Valley against interfering in Mt Kenya’s political affairs.
Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Murang’a at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday, August 1, 2026,Gachagua expressed concern over what he described as increased efforts by Rift Valley leaders to campaign in the Mt Kenya region on behalf of President William Ruto.
The former deputy president said that several leaders from the region have been touring Mt Kenya in an attempt to persuade residents to abandon their current political position and rally behind President Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He argued that such efforts would not change the political mood in the region, insisting that Mt Kenya residents had already made up their minds.
“Rift Valley politicians should spend their time advising President Ruto on how to address the concerns facing Kenyans instead of attempting to change the political direction of the Mt Kenya region,”Gachagua said.
