TSC Advertises 20,000 Junior School Teaching Jobs and 34,016 Promotion Posts Nationwide

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced more than 54,000 teaching and promotion opportunities targeting unemployed teachers and serving educators seeking career progression.
‎
‎The vacancies include 20,000 permanent and pensionable positions for post-primary teachers to serve in Junior Schools and 34,016 promotion opportunities across various teaching and administrative grades.
‎
‎The openings,one of its largest recruitment drives in the teaching department was published in the MyGov Weekly Review of July 28, 2026, as the commission moves to strengthen staffing under the Competency Based Education (CBE) programme.
‎
‎20,000 vacancies for Junior School teachers
‎TSC has invited qualified teachers to apply for 20,000 post-primary teacher positions to teach in Junior Schools.
‎
‎“The Teachers Service Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill 20,000 post-primary teacher posts in Junior Schools to support the implementation of Competency Based Education,” read the notice in part.
‎
‎Applications will be submitted online through the commission’s website under the Careers section or through the Teachers Online portal. The application portal opens on August 18, 2026, and closes at midnight on August 31, 2026.
‎
‎Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, registered with the Teachers Service Commission and hold at least a diploma in education with a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ and C+ in two teaching subjects or equivalent qualifications.
‎
‎Candidates must also be unemployed and should not have left the teaching service on disciplinary grounds.
‎
‎”The commission recruitment will be conducted on merit based on the number of vacancies available in each county. Successful candidates will teach learning areas under the Junior School curriculum, while teacher interns who secure employment will remain in their current stations”,the report noted.
‎
‎Over 34,000 Promotion Opportunities
‎This comes as the Teachers Service Commission intensifies efforts to address long-standing staffing shortages and career stagnation under the Competency Based Education system.
‎
‎TSC has also advertised 34,016 promotion vacancies for teachers and Curriculum Support Officers.
‎
‎The positions cover Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Lecturer, Senior Master, Curriculum Support Officer, Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Teacher and Secondary Teacher grades.
‎
‎Among the advertised vacancies are 54 Chief Principal (Regular) positions, 770 Principal (Regular), 1,068 Deputy Principal III (Regular), 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II (Regular), 5,956 Senior Master IV, 4,210 Senior Teacher I and 13,490 Senior Teacher II positions.

‎Teachers interested in promotion have until midnight on August 10, 2026, to submit their applications through the Teachers Online portal.
‎
‎Successful applicants will be deployed to institutions with existing vacancies.
‎
‎Warning against fraud
‎TSC said all applications must be submitted online and that manual applications will not be accepted.
‎
‎Applicants will be required to present original academic and professional certificates during the recruitment process and should not submit more than one application for employment.
‎
‎The commission also reminded applicants that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and cautioned the public against fraudsters seeking money while claiming to influence the process.
‎
‎Cases of suspected fraud should be reported to the nearest TSC office, the Director Staffing, the Deputy Director Staffing or the nearest police station.
‎
‎The commission said detailed vacancy distributions by county and sub-county are available on its website, with the recruitment and promotion exercise expected to boost staffing levels in schools while creating career advancement opportunities for thousands of teachers across the country.
