Absa Bank Kenya has partnered with marathon star Eliud Kipchoge as its Official World Tour Financial Partner, linking the bank’s financial services with the Kenyan athlete’s ambition to run seven marathons across all seven continents.
The partnership, unveiled on October 13, 2026, will see Absa and Kipchoge collaborate on customer experiences, leadership conversations, digital storytelling, wellness initiatives and community programmes aimed at inspiring individuals and businesses to pursue their ambitions.
Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic marathon champion and multiple World Marathon Majors winner, recently returned to Kenya after winning the 2026 Melbourne Marathon, where he also set a new course record.
The athlete, who made history in 2019 by running a marathon in under two hours in a specially organised event, is now pursuing his vision of making the world a running world through a seven-marathon tour covering all seven continents.
Absa said the partnership reflects shared values of discipline, ambition and perseverance, drawing parallels between Kipchoge’s athletic achievements and the financial goals of customers seeking to grow businesses, buy homes, fund education and build wealth.
“Eliud Kipchoge’s achievements extend beyond sport. He embodies possibility beyond limits. He is proof of what is possible when talent, discipline and purpose come together,” said Yusuf Omari, Managing Director and CEO of Absa Bank Kenya.
Omari said Kipchoge’s journey from his early cross-country trials in Kenya to international athletic success aligns with the bank’s Pan-African ambitions and its commitment to helping customers realise their financial goals.
“Partnering with Eliud enables us to connect with our customers on a human level, inspiring everyday individuals, entrepreneurs and institutions to dream bigger and achieve their financial aspirations across Kenya and the rest of Africa,” he said.
Beyond athletics, the partnership will focus on youth development, entrepreneurship, education, healthy living and community impact, areas in which both parties say they want to create opportunities for people to thrive.
Mwihaki Wachira, Absa Bank Kenya’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Director, said the collaboration reflects the bank’s purpose of empowering Africa’s future through individual stories and shared opportunities.
“Inspired by our purpose of ‘Empowering Africa’s tomorrow together, one story at a time’, we believe that every individual has a story worth investing in and that, with the right support, people can achieve extraordinary things,” Wachira said.
For Kipchoge, the partnership builds on an existing relationship with the bank, which he said he has trusted as a customer for many years.
“Success is never achieved alone. That is why I am proud to call Absa my partner and to feel their support as I run seven marathons on all seven continents in pursuit of my vision to make the world a running world,” he said.
Kipchoge added that teamwork depends on trust and that continuing the journey with Absa marks an exciting moment in his pursuit of the global running initiative.
The partnership will use sporting and community engagements to encourage people to take practical steps towards their ambitions, with Absa positioning financial support and customer engagement as part of the journey towards personal and business success.
Through the collaboration, the bank aims to draw on Kipchoge’s global profile and message that achievement is built through consistent effort, partnerships and perseverance long before the finish line.
