LG Electronics (LG) has reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions below its 2030 target level five years ahead of schedule, according to its 2025–2026 Sustainability Report. It also surpassed its waste recycling goal, achieving a 97.3 percent recycling rate across its global operations in 2025.
The report highlights progress across the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments, including lower emissions from product use, expanded accessibility features across its products and services, stronger AI governance and continued recognition among the world’s leading companies for sustainability performance.
In 2025, Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions across its domestic and international operations totaled 842,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂eq), below the 2030 target of 878,000 tCO₂eq. The achievement reflects efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 54.6 percent from 2017 levels through measures such as deploying energy-efficient equipment and expanding the use of renewable electricity across operations.
The company also exceeded its target for reducing emissions generated during the use of its products*. Per-unit greenhouse gas emissions across seven major product categories fell by 22.5 percent compared to 2020, surpassing the 2030 target of a 20 percent reduction.
The report further highlights continued progress toward circular economy goals. Alongside achieving a 97.3 percent waste recycling rate, exceeding its 95 percent target, LG maintained Zero Waste to Landfill certification across all five of its domestic production facilities, each retaining the highest Platinum rating. During the year, it collected 640,000 tons of used electronics across 91 locations in 56 countries, bringing cumulative global e-waste recovery since 2006 to more than 5.65 million tons.

Beyond its environmental performance, the company expanded solutions such as the LG Comfort Kit, which makes home appliances easier to use regardless of age, gender, or disability, while extending accessibility features including braille labels, tactile guides, and kiosks equipped with sign-language avatars. It also continued to support customers through sign-language consultations and dedicated services for senior users, alongside products such as LG Easy TV.
Reflecting the growing role of artificial intelligence across its business, the report introduces a dedicated Responsible AI section outlining the company’s AI Ethics Principles and governance framework, underscoring its commitment to accountability, transparency and responsible AI development and deployment.
These efforts continue to earn global recognition, with LG now included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index for 14 consecutive years and ranked in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) “Top 1%” for the third year in a row. It also improved its MSCI ESG rating to “AA” and earned a second consecutive Platinum rating from EcoVadis, placing it among the top one percent of companies assessed globally in its industry.
