The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru as the duly elected Ol Kalou Constituency MP after he secured 35,440 votes.
IEBC Returning Officer Antony Njiraine announced the results on Friday, July 17, confirming that Waweru defeated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who garnered 5,450 votes.
The other candidates trailed significantly, with Wilson Mwaniki Kigwa of the Jubilee Party finishing a distant third after garnering 198 votes, followed by Stephen Wanyoike Waithaka of the National Liberal Party (NLP), who secured 103 votes.
Timothy Kamau Kariuki of the People’s Movement (PM) received 51 votes, while Edwin Kariiri Muchiri (PNU) garnered 28 votes. Abdifatah Hussein Abdullahi (FPK) secured 19 votes, Edward Mathenge Mwaniki (KMM) got 16 votes, and Rachael Wangui Njoroge (PDP) finished with 11 votes.
According to the Electoral Commission, the constituency had 73,480 registered voters, with 41,656 ballots cast, translating to a 57 per cent voter turnout.
Kamau Waweru emerged victorious over Nyagah, securing the parliamentary seat that fell vacant after the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho.
In a statement after announcing the results, the Commission thanked voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, observers and the media for contributing to what it described as a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
“We thank the voters of Ol Kalou Constituency, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, observers, the media and all stakeholders for contributing to a peaceful and orderly electoral process,” the Commission announced.
