Sh45 Million Diani Land Fraud Suspect Arraigned in Kwale
A suspect has been arrested and arraigned in connection with an alleged attempt to fraudulently take over a prime piece of land in Diani, Kwale County, valued at approximately Sh45 million.
George Nyambati Mochache was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Land Fraud Investigations Unit following investigations into alleged fraudulent dealings involving a three-hectare property.
The land was reportedly purchased by the complainant in 1991.
The dispute emerged in April 2023 after the complainant was alerted that a third party had allegedly entered the property, subdivided it by placing beacons, started clearing the land and advertised portions of it for sale.
The complainant reported the matter, prompting detectives to launch investigations into the alleged land fraud scheme.
After completing their investigations, the DCI forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which directed that Mochache be charged with conspiracy to defraud.
Mochache was arrested at DCI Headquarters on October 2, 2026, after responding to a court summons.
He was subsequently processed and escorted to Kwale County.
He was arraigned before the Kwale Law Courts on Monday, October 5, where he denied the charges.
The court granted him a Sh10 million bond and scheduled the case for mention on October 29, 2026.
The DCI said its Land Fraud Investigations Unit remains focused on investigating fraudulent schemes targeting legitimate property owners and protecting the integrity of land ownership and property records.
