South African government has refuted claims that the country is becoming isolated from the rest of Africa following recent anti-migrant protests.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya, while briefing media stated that there was a sustained campaign to portray South Africa as a “pariah state,” despite the government’s repeated condemnation of attacks on foreign nationals and its commitment to enforcing immigration laws within the Constitution.
Magwenya also accused critics of misrepresenting diplomatic engagements to create the impression that South Africa was being shunned.
He said President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent international engagements, including a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, showed that South Africa remained actively engaged with Africa and the wider world
