EACC arrests two more Nyamira officials over Sh367m Assembly tender
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a Sh367 million tender for the construction of an office block.
The commission said the alleged irregularities resulted in the loss of Sh30.18 million in public funds.
The two suspects are David Nyirango Ombego, Deputy Clerk and Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services, and Joyce Onyiego, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation.
EACC investigators arrested the officials in Kisii County during a coordinated operation as part of investigations into the controversial tender.
The suspects are expected to face charges including abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with laws governing the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.
They are currently being processed at the EACC South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii ahead of their arraignment in court.
Their arrest brings to five the number of Nyamira County Assembly officials who have been arrested and charged in connection with the case.
Those previously arrested and charged are Duke Simeon Onyari, Clerk of the Nyamira County Assembly; Eng. Josephat Matini Oruru, Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works; and Simon Ondari Ogecha, Infrastructure Officer.
The latest arrests are part of the EACC’s ongoing investigations into the alleged procurement irregularities surrounding the construction project.
