The railway connection linking Nairobi’s central business district to the KSh45.8 billion Talanta Sports City is taking shape as Kenya moves to improve transport access to the new stadium.
Kenya Railways is upgrading the existing railway corridor towards Talanta Sports City, with the project expected to provide a more direct public transport option for fans, athletes and visitors attending events at the facility.
The works involve upgrading 13.3 kilometres of railway track and adding a 1.3-kilometre second line to improve capacity along the route.
Kenya Railways is also constructing new commuter stations at Talanta Stadium and Laini Saba, alongside pedestrian overpasses and underpasses to improve connectivity and safety for passengers.
Once completed, the railway link is expected to strengthen Nairobi’s commuter rail network and provide an alternative to road transport, particularly during major sporting and entertainment events that attract thousands of visitors.
The development comes as Kenya invests in infrastructure to support its growing sports and events economy and prepare for hosting major international competitions.
Talanta Sports City, located along Jamhuri/Ngong Road, is being developed as a major sports and entertainment complex, with the stadium forming the centrepiece of the project.
The railway connection is therefore being developed alongside the sports infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring that increased traffic to the facility does not place additional pressure on Nairobi’s already congested roads.
