Kenya Railways is constructing a dedicated railway connection linking Nairobi Central Business District to Talanta Sports City through Nyayo Stadium, in a move aimed at improving public transport for sports fans, athletes and event personnel.
The proposed connection is expected to ease road congestion during major sporting and entertainment events while improving access to key venues for local and international visitors.
The project includes upgrading 13.3 kilometres of the existing railway track between Nairobi Central Station and Satellite.
Kenya Railways also plans to construct a 1.3-kilometre second line between Kibera and Satellite to serve the proposed Talanta Stadium Train Station.
Two new commuter stations are planned at Talanta Stadium and Laini Saba, alongside pedestrian overpasses and underpasses at Kibera, Laini Saba, Gatwekera and Kambi Muru.
Kenya Railways said the connection will complement Nairobi’s wider urban transport network and increase the role of rail in supporting the city’s growing sports, entertainment and events economy.
