Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has challenged the Kiambu County Government to provide evidence of tarmacked or cabro roads it has completed in the constituency since 2022, offering KSh1 million to anyone who can prove that such a project exists.
In a statement posted on her social media platforms on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Wamuchomba questioned the visibility of county-funded road projects in Githunguri and challenged residents and county officials to identify at least one kilometre of completed tarmac or cabro road.
“I’m willing to give KSh1 million to anyone who will show me with evidence a kilometre of tarmac road or Cabro done by the Kiambu County Government in my Githunguri constituency from 2022 to date,” she said.
The MP also questioned the utilisation of funds allocated to Kiambu County for road development, claiming that the county had received more than KSh200 billion for road construction over the past four years.
“The county has received over KSh200 billion for road construction for four years. Where is the money?” Wamuchomba asked.
She accused the administration of Governor Kimani Wamatangi of focusing on what she termed public relations campaigns instead of demonstrating completed infrastructure projects.
“Kiambu is the home of PR gimmicks and mass falsehoods led by the county chief. Niko hapa,” she said.
Wamuchomba’s remarks have placed renewed focus on the state of road infrastructure in Githunguri and the distinction between county and national government projects.
The Uplands-Githunguri-Ruiru road, for instance, is a national government project being implemented through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
A KSh4.06 billion contract for the 44-kilometre road was awarded in January 2026 for its upgrade to bitumen standards.
The county government, meanwhile, says it has established road construction units across Kiambu and has been opening and maintaining rural and feeder roads using county-owned machinery.
Wamuchomba’s KSh1 million challenge specifically concerns roads constructed by the Kiambu County Government within Githunguri Constituency between 2022 and September 2026, rather than projects undertaken by national government agencies.
The challenge now puts the county administration under scrutiny to demonstrate the specific road projects it has completed in the constituency during the period in question.
