2 Sisters Allegedly Assaulted by Ndichu Brothers Want Special Police Unit to Take over Investigation

Two sisters who allege they were assaulted by twin brothers Edward and Paul Ndichu have given their account of the events that unfolded during a late-night confrontation at a Nairobi hotel.

Stephanie and Cheryl Murgor spoke alongside their lawyer and uncle, Philip Murgor, and called for police to take action against the twins over the alleged assault.

Stephanie said one of the brothers choked her during the incident, leaving her with difficulties swallowing, while Cheryl said she sustained bruises on her hand during the confrontation.

“We expect nothing but justice. While the Police IG has given assurance that the incident will be fully investigated, on our part, due to the alleged influence and power the perpetrators are supposed to wield, we demand that the IG assign the investigation to a species team at police headquarters who should ensure that the investigations are completed as soon as possible and forwarded to the ODPP for the prosecution of the Ndichu twins,” they said.

The sisters said they had completed and returned their P3 forms following the alleged assault, which they said was captured on camera. They called for the police to move quickly with the investigation.

Stephanie and Cheryl, who operate a designer clothing business in Nairobi, said they had attended a wedding after-party at a hotel together with their friends Samuel Ramdas and Patrick Koech.

According to their account, the confrontation began at about 2.30am when one of the twins allegedly made an improper advance towards Stephanie.

She said she responded by telling him that she knew him as the husband of journalist Janet Mbugua. The woman accompanying the brothers then reportedly shouted that he was an ex-husband.

Stephanie said she subsequently headed towards the exit but was verbally confronted by one of the brothers.

“Suddenly, the brother in dark clothes jumped onto Stephanie and started choking her by grabbing her by the throat. When her boyfriend Samuel attempted to rescue her he was also grabbed by the throat. After a few seconds he let go of the two extremely shaken couple but went on to threaten them by stating he had marked their faces,” Murgor said.

The sisters then moved towards the lifts as they attempted to leave the hotel and get to their vehicle. They alleged that another confrontation followed on the ground floor.

“Suddenly the twin brothers with their lady friend appeared on the ground floor and proceeded to attack Cheryl and Patrick after which both brothers proceeded to the front entrance where Stephanie and Samuel were waiting,” Murgor said.

The sisters further alleged that the confrontation continued outside the hotel, where the twins allegedly damaged the side mirrors of their vehicle.

“At the entrance, one of the brothers violently broke the right-hand door side mirror while the other one broke the left-hand side one before they again went to attack Cheryl.”

Murgor also alleged that the twins threatened to shoot the group during the confrontation.

“The hotel security and police intervened to save the victims from serious injury if not death,” he said.

The sisters said the brothers subsequently offered to pay Sh110,000 for damage to the vehicle’s mirrors and a dent.

“One of the brothers proceeded to pay via M-Pesa after which they both went back to the hotel. However, immediately thereafter, the transaction was reversed. At no point did the young ladies accept any compensation for the assault or injury to themselves,” Murgor said.

The sisters reported the matter at Akila Police Station, where they were issued with P3 forms to document their injuries.

They said the medical documentation included a bite injury suffered by Cheryl and tenderness around Stephanie’s neck.

However, the account was disputed by Munira Hassan, the woman who was with the Ndichu twins during the incident.

Hassan accused the Murgor sisters of assaulting her and produced a medical report which she said documented bruises sustained during the confrontation.

She claimed the twins intervened after she was attacked by one of the Murgor sisters and her boyfriend.

“As a result, my hair was painfully plucked from my scalp… I was unconscious for a few seconds and left with bruises on my body and a bloody scar on my forehead as per the attached medical report,” she said.

Hassan called on the Murgor sisters to allow the police investigation to establish what happened.

“The twins ran back in to help me and get this crazy lady off me because she wouldn’t let my hair go,” she said.
