Tanzanian singer Nandy has been fined Sh147,000 by the National Arts Council of Tanzania (BASATA) over an outfit she wore while performing at the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 finale.
Nandy, whose real name is Faustina Charles Mfinanga, attracted the council’s attention after appearing on stage in a floor-length white outfit made of sheer, lace-like beaded fabric that created the illusion of a bare body underneath.
The singer paired the outfit with a dramatic feathered cape, a high beaded collar and white heels decorated with fur pom-poms.
BASATA said the outfit crossed the limits set by Tanzania’s artistic and moral standards.
According to the council, Nandy accepted responsibility for the violation, removed the related video from her social media platforms and paid the fine in full.
Following her compliance with the directive, BASATA cleared the singer to resume her artistic activities. However, the council said she would remain under supervision.
Nandy was not the only party sanctioned over the incident.Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle Limited, the company behind the Miss Universe Tanzania event, was also fined for allowing the performance to take place.
BASATA further warned the organisers to ensure future events comply with Tanzania’s arts and entertainment regulations.
Meanwhile, musician Harmonize was also fined by BASATA over his music video Kudos, which the council said failed to comply with established procedures governing artists in Tanzania.
BASATA said the sanctions form part of its broader enforcement measures targeting artists, event organisers and other stakeholders whose content or performances violate regulations and the country’s established artistic and moral standards.
