Police Recover Sh5.1 Million Narcotics in Bungoma, Busia Crackdown
Police have recovered 170.8 kilogrammes of suspected narcotics worth an estimated Sh5.1 million in separate operations in Bungoma and Busia counties, as a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking intensifies.
The seizures were made on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, following intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug traffickers.
In Bungoma County, police officers acting on intelligence spotted a suspicious vehicle travelling along the Malaba–Webuye highway.
The officers pursued the vehicle, which eventually stalled, forcing its occupants to flee on foot.
A search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of 162 bales of suspected narcotics and a polythene bag containing additional suspected drugs.
The consignment weighed 170.8 kilogrammes and had an estimated street value of Sh5,124,000, according to the National Police Service.
In a separate incident in Busia County, police officers on patrol along the Bundokomi–Mundika road intercepted a motorcycle carrying two green sacks.
The motorcyclist abandoned the motorcycle and escaped when officers attempted to stop him.
A subsequent search uncovered two bales wrapped in yellow cellotape containing green, dry plant material suspected to be narcotics.
The National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) has taken custody of the recovered drugs and the abandoned vehicle and motorcycle in Bungoma and Busia counties.
Investigations are ongoing, with police intensifying a manhunt for the suspects who escaped during the operations.
The National Police Service said the multi-agency crackdown on narcotics remains ongoing across the country.
Police also called on members of the public to continue sharing timely information with law enforcement agencies to help combat drug trafficking.
