Jubilee Names Team to Pursue Opposition Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Jubilee Party has appointed a three-member committee to engage opposition parties on coalition-building ahead of the 2027 General Election, as it seeks to strengthen unity and cooperation among like-minded political formations.
In resolutions issued on Wednesday, October 28, following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader and presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i on October 27, the party named Senator Kembi Gitura as chairperson of the Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee.
The committee also comprises Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era.
According to the resolutions, the team will review and propose amendments, if necessary, to the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA), engage other opposition parties and develop proposals to strengthen cooperation ahead of the 2027 polls.
Jubilee said building consensus among opposition parties was essential to developing a common agenda for the country’s transformation.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the NEC for consideration and further direction.
The move comes as political parties begin positioning themselves and exploring alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, when President William Ruto is expected to seek re-election.
Opposition formations face the challenge of coordinating their strategies and agreeing on a common political platform.
In other resolutions, the NEC approved the appointment of Lucy Naisia Kashu as interim chairperson of the party’s Women’s Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as interim deputy national organising secretary.
The party also extended its best wishes to candidates sitting national examinations, including KILEA, KIPLEA, KIPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE 2026.
Jubilee reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue and cooperation as it prepares for the next general election.
