Four Arrested as Police Seize Bhang, Chang’aa in Three-County Drug Crackdown
Detectives have arrested four suspects and seized bhang, illicit alcohol and suspected counterfeit cigarettes in a multi-county crackdown on drug trafficking in Kisii, Kitui and Kajiado counties.
The operations, conducted through intelligence-led investigations and multi-agency collaboration, targeted suspected drug dealers and individuals transporting illegal substances for distribution.
In Riosiri, Kisii County, detectives arrested Amos Mogere Omari following a tip-off from a member of the public that led officers to his house.
A search of the premises uncovered 1.63 kilogrammes of cannabis, 70 litres of chang’aa, 14 packets of Supermarch cigarettes suspected to be counterfeit, nine packets of Oris cigarettes and a box of cigarette-rolling materials.
Omari was taken into custody pending arraignment in court. In a separate incident along the Thika–Garissa Highway in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County, a multi-agency security team intercepted a passenger bus travelling from Nairobi to Garissa.
Officers searched passengers and their luggage, discovering 30 rolls of bhang and a packet of Rizla rolling papers in a backpack belonging to Dominic Mweu Kimanzi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kimanzi had allegedly purchased the drugs in Gatitu, Thika, and was transporting them to Ukasi Market in Mwingi East for sale.
He was arrested and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station for further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Kajiado County, detectives from DCI Kajiado South, working alongside officers from Kimana Police Station, intercepted a white Toyota Sienta along the Oloitoktok–Emali Road following an intelligence tip-off.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of four sacks of bhang, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: Daniel Momanyi Mongare, Samwuel Kasane and Mercy Naserian.
The suspects are being investigated over their alleged involvement in the transportation of the narcotics.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said it would continue pursuing individuals involved in drug trafficking and the distribution of illicit substances.
The agency also highlighted the role of public cooperation, intelligence-led operations and collaboration among security agencies in disrupting suspected criminal networks and curbing the spread of dangerous substances in communities.
