Tragedy on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway as Six Die, Several Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision
Six people, including three students have been killed and several others injured in a road accident involving a private van, a trailer and a 14-seater matatu at Lessos Junction in the Mlima Punda area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Thursday.
The injured were rushed to Burnt Forest Hospital and Plateau Hospital for treatment as police officers, emergency responders and residents mounted a rescue operation to free passengers trapped in the mangled wreckage.
Confirming the accident,Uasin Gishu County Traffic Enforcement Officer Cornelius Chesimet, said that investigations had been launched to establish the exact cause of the collision.
Images from the scene showed the 14-seater matatu extensively damaged, with its passenger side ripped open, the roof crushed, seats mangled and several windows shattered, underscoring the force of the impact.
The comes comes barely a day after another road accident claimed two lives and left 26 others injured along the Muhoroni-Londiani Highway. The crash occurred at around 4:50 am near the Tunnel area, about seven kilometres east of Fort Ternan, when a bus carrying mourners reportedly lost control and rolled off the road.
