Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has sparked fresh political speculation after likening the current political situation to the sinking of the Titanic, in what analysts are likely to interpret as a veiled reference to the growing wave of defections from President William Ruto’s political camp.
In a post on X on Friday, Kuria wrote that the “ship has hit the iceberg” and was inevitably heading for disaster, while some people remained oblivious to the unfolding crisis.
“The Movie is THE TITANIC. The ship has hit the iceberg. Water levels are near full inside the ship. It’s clear to all it’s headed to the bottom of the sea. The passengers are prepared for the worst. Even the rats are scampering for safety and looking for an exit,” Kuria posted.
He added: “But two groups remained oblivious. The band continued playing the music like nothing was happening. And wives of the nobles and the rich were still quarreling loudly about who would sit on the front row.”
Although Kuria did not mention any political party or leader, the remarks come against the backdrop of increasing defections from the ruling coalition, with several leaders abandoning the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for the newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and other political formations.
The latest political realignments have seen a number of elected leaders publicly resign from UDA, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s direction and leadership, while others have declared support for emerging opposition movements ahead of the next General Election.
Kuria’s comments are expected to fuel debate over the stability of the ruling party, particularly as internal divisions become more visible and competition for political influence intensifies.
The former Cabinet Secretary has in recent months adopted an increasingly outspoken tone on national politics, often posting cryptic messages on social media that have attracted widespread interpretation and debate.
