Kawangware Electricity Meter Theft Suspect Arrested, 12 Meters Recovered
Detectives have arrested a suspected electricity meter thief in Kawangware, Nairobi, after recovering 12 suspected stolen meters from his residence in an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified as Clinton Amuma, was arrested at his home in Kawangware Stage 56 following intelligence linking him to an alleged electricity meter theft syndicate.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers searched the suspect’s house and recovered 12 electricity meters believed to have been stolen.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives process him ahead of his expected arraignment in court.
The recovered meters have been secured as exhibits, while Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) personnel have joined the investigation to help establish their origin and advance inquiries into the suspected theft network.
The arrest comes amid efforts by the DCI and KPLC to crack down on electricity meter theft and the illegal trade in electricity equipment.
The two agencies say they are pursuing individuals involved in the criminal networks to dismantle their operations and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
