Glee Hotel Placed Under Administration as Equity Bank Takes Control
Glee Hotel, one of Nairobi’s high-profile luxury hospitality establishments that has hosted several high-level government events, has been placed under administration after Equity Bank Kenya appointed an administrator to take over its affairs.
A notice published under the Insolvency Act, 2015 shows that Kamal Anantroy Bhatt of Anant Bhatt LLP was appointed administrator of Glee Hotel Limited effective July 6, 2026 by Equity Bank Kenya.
The appointment transfers control of the hotel’s assets and management to the administrator, effectively stripping the company’s directors of their powers to manage or transact using the firm’s assets.
“The Administrator has taken control over the assets and the management of the affairs of the Company,” the notice states, adding that the directors’ powers over the company’s assets have ceased following the administration.
The administrator has also invited all creditors to submit their claims, together with supporting documents, within 30 days for consideration. The company’s directors have been directed to provide a statement of affairs within 12 days.
Administration is a legal process designed to rescue financially distressed companies or achieve a better outcome for creditors than would be possible through liquidation.

The development marks a significant setback for the hospitality sector, with Glee Hotel having built a reputation as a venue for corporate and government events. The hotel recently hosted several Parliamentary public participation forums, including sessions on the Finance Bill, 2026, attended by lawmakers, industry representatives and members of the public.

The appointment also highlights the growing use of administration by lenders seeking to recover debts while preserving the value of distressed businesses.
It was not immediately clear what financial challenges led to the appointment, and neither Equity Bank nor Glee Hotel disclosed details of the company’s indebtedness.
The administrator will now oversee the hotel’s operations while assessing options that could include restructuring the business, securing new investment, selling the company as a going concern, or disposing of its assets to maximize returns for creditors.
