Qatar Airways has announced a major expansion of its African network, resuming flights to key destinations and increasing frequencies on several routes as it seeks to meet growing demand for travel, trade and tourism across the continent.
The airline will restart four weekly flights to Seychelles and two weekly flights to Kigali from June 16, 2026, while daily flights to Marrakesh, Morocco, will commence on July 1.
The expansion will also see increased flight frequencies to several African cities, including Alexandria, Cairo, Cape Town, Dar es Salaam, Lusaka-Harare and Maputo-Durban, providing passengers with more travel options and improved connectivity through Doha.
Dar es Salaam will particularly benefit from the changes, with flights increasing from three weekly services to daily operations, enhancing links between East Africa and Qatar Airways’ global network of more than 160 destinations.
In another boost for regional connectivity, the airline will launch three weekly flights to Port Sudan beginning July 2. The new service is expected to improve travel access for passengers from the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Oman and Pakistan, through seamless connections at Hamad International Airport in Doha.
The move underscores Qatar Airways’ strategy of strengthening its presence in Africa while responding to rising demand for air travel and trade connections.
Industry observers note that increased frequencies to African destinations are likely to support tourism, business travel and cargo movement, sectors that continue to play a critical role in the continent’s economic growth.
The enhanced schedule will see Alexandria flights increase from three weekly services to daily operations, Cairo rise from 28 to 35 weekly flights, Cape Town from seven to 10 weekly flights, while Lusaka-Harare and Maputo-Durban routes will both increase to daily services.
Qatar Airways said the network expansion reflects its commitment to providing greater convenience and connectivity for passengers while supporting sustainable growth across its global operations.
The airline currently serves more than 160 destinations worldwide through its hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha, one of the world’s busiest international transit hubs.
