A company director has appeared in court accused of conning an elderly man out of Sh350,000.
Philip Emuruon Obwana, who owns Amanda Creek Limited, stood before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the allegations against him.
According to the prosecution, Emuruon defrauded Walter Ben Osiya on various dates between 14 February and 26 June 2023, at a location within the country not specified. He is accused of falsely claiming he could include Osiya in a project run by his firm, Amanda Creek Limited, in Watamu, Kilifi County.
Emuruon allegedly told Osiya he would bring him into the business once the National Environment Management Authority gave its approval — a claim prosecutors say he knew was untrue.
An attempt to have the case withdrawn collapsed after Osiya told the magistrate no such agreement existed. Emuruon’s lawyer had earlier told the court that the two sides had agreed to drop the charges, prompting the magistrate to adjourn the matter until Osiya could confirm this in person. When asked directly, however, Osiya denied any such arrangement.
Emuruon was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
