Veteran Kenyan football coach Abdallah Juma has died after a prolonged battle with diabetes and pancreatic cancer.
Juma’s family confirmed that he had passed on at 1:00 am on Friday and will be laid to rest later today at 4:00 pm in Murang’a Town in accordance with Islamic rites.
This comes weeks after family, friends and members of the football fraternity appealed for financial support towards his treatment after his condition deteriorated, leaving him unable to walk
He was one of Kenya’s most experienced football tacticians, having coached across the Kenyan Premier League and National Super League for more than two decades.
Juma had managed several clubs including Thika United, KCB FC, Bidco United, Chemelil Sugar, Western Stima, FC Talanta, Vihiga Bullets and Murang’a SEAL, while also serving as assistant coach at AFC Leopards.
He enjoyed one of the most successful spells of his career at KCB, where he was appointed head coach ahead of the 2013 Kenyan Premier League season.
Under his guidance, the Bankers became one of the league’s most competitive sides, with his work earning him the Kenyan Premier League Coach of the Year award.
