Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse has urged Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka to work with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing residents at Kiaoni Market in Makueni County on July 23, 2026, Mutuse urged Kalonzo to consider his political position before opportunities for collaboration with the government before it’s too late.
“Siasa ya Kenya inataka kujipanga na kuona mbali. Tunataka tumwulize Kalonzo Musyoka, kabla hii mlango ya William Ruto haijafungwa, njoo tufanye kazi pamoja,” he said.
Mutuse reminded political leaders to make decisions based on long-term interests, adding that Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve as the country moves towards the next General Election.
He said Kalonzo should carefully assess his role within the opposition, arguing that the coalition’s internal arrangements could leave him without the opportunity to contest the presidency.
“Hawa watu walikubetray wakati wa Kibaki… sai unaambiwa ukuwe Prime Minister wa watoto wadogo kwani wewe hauna macho ya kuona mbali. Usipoingia sisi tutaendelea bila wewe,” he said.
The legislator also encouraged residents of Ukambani to support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the region stands to benefit from working with the national government.
“I want you to do me one favour. If you vote for me, give Ruto votes too. If I get 500 votes, let William Ruto also get 500 votes here,” he said.
His appeal was echoed by Farouk Kibet, who also called on Kalonzo to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Kabla Kalonzo hajaangamia, mwambieni ashikane na huyu Mutuse watafutane na William Ruto watengeneze serikali,” Kibet said.
Mutuse also spoke about possible political alignments ahead of the 2027 election, saying discussions within the opposition could result in different leadership arrangements.
He referred to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Kalonzo while discussing possible political formations ahead of the polls.
