APA Life Assurance Hosts Pension Master Class to Address Kenya’s Evolving Retirement Landscape

APA Life Assurance convened some of Kenya’s foremost retirement, pensions, and investment experts for a comprehensive Pension Master class aimed at equipping Kenyans for longer, healthier, and more financially secure retirements.

Held under the theme “Shape What’s Next,” the Master class delivered practical insights into the shifting retirement landscape while arming individuals, employers, and financial decision-makers with the knowledge necessary to construct resilient retirement plans.

The initiative comes as Kenyans enjoy extended life expectancies, introducing new complexities to retirement planning. Rising healthcare expenditures, fluctuating economic conditions, and evolving pension regulations have rendered traditional savings approaches inadequate for today’s retirees.

The APA Life Pension Master class examined these emerging challenges while spotlighting available opportunities for individuals to attain financial independence throughout their retirement years.

The programme featured expert presentations and panel discussions covering a keynote address on the Economic Outlook 2026 and its implications for retirement planning, sessions on creating lasting social impact through financial security beyond retirement, explorations of Kenya’s future retirement landscape including policy, regulation and emerging opportunities, and discussions on the growing importance of post-retirement medical cover.

Eric Wanting, Chief Executive Officer of APA Life Assurance, emphasised that Kenya’s pension conversation must transcend mere savings accumulation.

“Retirement is no longer just about reaching a certain age or building a pension fund. It is about creating lifelong financial resilience that allows people to live with dignity, independence and confidence,” Wanting stated. “As life expectancy increases, retirement planning must address investment growth, healthcare, financial literacy and ongoing engagement. Through this Master class we are giving Kenyans the knowledge, tools and support they need to prepare for the future with confidence.”

The event underscored APA Life’s ongoing commitment to advancing financial literacy and enabling more Kenyans to make informed decisions regarding long-term financial security. By convening policymakers, industry experts and retirement specialists, the Master Class fostered meaningful dialogue on retirement’s future while delivering practical solutions for both individuals and corporations.

The Retirement Master Class attracted pension trustees, employers, HR professionals, financial advisers, retirement scheme members, regulators, and individuals seeking to strengthen their retirement planning strategies.
